2020 Young Artist Workshop “Flipped” to Virtual

The University of Findlay’s Mazza Museum Young Artist Workshop will be held virtually July 20-24 via Zoom and Google Classroom. This event helps children learn about the fascinating world of picture book art in a fun, exciting way with instruction from children’s book illustrators, Mazza staff, and local area teachers.

Heather Sensel, education coordinator at the University of Findlay’s Mazza Museum, said, “our mission for this year’s virtual Young Artist Workshop is to allow the participants a way to express their feelings while unleashing their creativity during this difficult time.”

This year’s Young Artist Workshop theme is “Flipped!” The young artists will be flipping, changing, and rearranging the media process used on already created works of art to come up with something new and unique. “The Mazza Young Artist Workshop crew is ready to make this NEW experience one the kids will remember!” Sensel said.

Are you ready to enroll your young artist? Cost for the virtual Young Artist Workshop is $100 and it is open to children in grades 3-5 and 6-8 (as of fall 2020). Enrollment space is limited and provided on a first come, first serve basis.

Registration includes:

  • Five downloadable PDFs of lesson plans that include step-by-step instruction guides
  • Five videos to accompany lesson plans
  • Virtual Art Gallery walkthrough
  • Five virtual teaching sessions with online instructors listed below
  • “ART in a BAG” which includes all project materials
  • Illustrator’s Bio, fun fact sheet
  • Young Artist Workshop t-shirt
  • Certificate of completion/achievement

For artist(s) to be prepared for the virtual activities each day, the Mazza Museum will have each “ART in a BAG” ready for pick up Thursday July 16 and Friday July 17, 9-10 a.m., 1-2 p.m., and 5-6 p.m. If not in Findlay or the surrounding area, please contact the Mazza Museum and request that your materials be mailed to you before camp, for an additional postal fee.

“We are excited to be able to continue the tradition of Young Artist Workshop and connect with all of the students again this year!” Sensel said. “We have been able to reach several students from out of the Findlay area that might not usually get the opportunity to attend due to the distance. There is always a bright side, and that is ours!”
