Keynote Speakers

Melissa Sweet

Artist

Melissa Sweet has illustrated over 100 books as well as toys, puzzles, and games for Eeboo. Her work has been in magazines, on greeting cards and as drawings on her living room walls. She has received numerous awards including two Caldecott Honors. Some of her books include: A River of Words: The Story of William Carlos Williams, The Right Words: Roget and His Thesaurus, Carmine: A Little More Red and Tupelo Rides the Rails.

Lori Nichols

Artist

Lori Nichols is the author and illustrator of the award-winning picture book, Maple. Its companion books include: Maple and Willow Together, Maple & Willow Apart and Maple and Willow’s Christmas Tree. Lori grew up in Western Pennsylvania marveling at everything from acorns to frogs to big sisters, and now makes books about them all.

Margaret Chodos-Irvine

Artist

Margaret Chodos-Irvine has illustrated 12 books for children and has been recognized with starred reviews and other honors, most notably a 2004 Caldecott Honor Award for Ella Sarah Gets Dressed, which she both wrote and illustrated. Other books include: Boom Boom, Zoo Shoes, Best Best Friends, Dinosaur Thunder, and Light Up the Night. Margaret lives in Seattle, Washington with her crafty family.

Nina Laden

Artist

Nina Laden started drawing as soon as she could hold a crayon, and soon after that she started making up stories. Her books include The Night I Followed The Dog, Private I. Guana, My Family Tree, When Pigasso met Mootisse, The Blues of Flats Brown, and Peek-a Who?. Nina graduated from Syracuse University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts.

Peter Catalanotto

Artist

Peter Catalanotto is the award-winning author and illustrator of many books for children, including Monkey & Robot, The Newbies, Question Boy Meets Little Miss Know-It-All, Good-bye, Sheepie, Who Came Down That Road?, Sleepsong, and Emily’s Art. A graduate of Pratt Institute, he currently teaches children’s book writing courses at Columbia University. He lives in Brooklyn, New York.

Stephen Savage

Artist

Stephen Savage is the New York Times best-selling illustrator of Polar Bear Night. He also wrote and illustrated Little Tug and the acclaimed Where’s Walrus?. Stephen graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and received his master’s from the School for Visual Arts in Manhattan. He lives in Brooklyn, New York, with his wife and daughter.
