Mazza Funday Sunday to Walk on the Wild Side

Mazza Funday Sunday to Walk on the Wild Side

Animals take the spotlight as the Mazza Museum welcomes special guests from Toledo Zoo and Aquarium and illustrator Jenny Hanf for “Animal Alphabet” from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 6. The Museum, located in the University of Findlay’s Virginia B. Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion, takes reading books about animals to a new level with guests and activities for November’s Funday Sunday that make it seem like these creatures have leapt off the page.

Keepers from Toledo Zoo and Aquarium will be bringing creatures that kids and families can see and touch as well as learn more about in a special presentation. Education students from the University will be on hand to help people see the connection between these zoological visitors and the books found in the Museum.

Also speaking at the event is Jenny Hanf, recent graduate of UF’s Children’s Book Illustration Program and illustrator of Mazza from A to Z. Hanf collaborated with Mazza staff this spring to release this alphabet book that features a school of animals who visit the Museum for a tour. At the event, she’ll share the book and more about how she created the illustrations with a digital drawing technique. Hanf will also sign copies of the book at the event. Mazza from A to Z is available for purchase in the Mazza Gift Shop.

There’s something for everyone at Funday Sunday with activity stations where kids and families will enjoy animal twister, face-painting, jungle music, dog and cat origami creation and so much more. Students from the University of Findlay’s Occupational Therapy Program will introduce guests to therapy dogs trained to brighten spirts and smiles. Humane Society & SPCA of Hancock County will also be bringing dogs and kittens with some available for adoption. Refreshments will also follow the animal theme with animal crackers, ants on a log and pigs in a blanket on the menu.

Located on the campus of the University of Findlay in the Virginia B. Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion, the Mazza Museum, is home to the world’s most diverse collection of original picture book art. The Museum and Gift Shop are open Wednesday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is free, and the museum hosts a variety of events throughout the year for children and adults.
