Floyd Dickman Outstanding Librarian Award

The Floyd Dickman Outstanding Librarian Award

The Floyd Dickman Outstanding Librarian Award has been established to recognize a children’s librarian who exhibits excellence in service and scholarship and demonstrates a commitment to diversity.

The award is given by the Mazza Museum in honor and memory of Floyd C. Dickman, who was a continuous supporter and advocate of children’s literature throughout his lifetime.  Floyd spent his career teaching and serving in libraries in Ohio.

Floyd was known for his generosity of time, talent, and gift. His service in various capacities to literary organizations, including the Mazza Museum, Ohio Educational Library and Media Association, Ohio Library Association, and the American Library Association, was a hallmark of his charitable disposition.

Along with serving, Floyd was dedicated to continuing education – learning and teaching were lifelong passions.  He completed his MLS at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and later shared his knowledge and experience of library science by teaching at several higher education institutions.

Floyd was also dedicated to furthering initiatives of cultural diversity and social justice.  He loved to share and promote books that shineda positive light on different cultures and lifestyles.  His commitment to diversity led him to lifetime membership of REFORMA and service on the Pura Belpre Award Committee.
