In our visually oriented culture, readers of all ages demand that an informational book’s art make it more interesting and attractive.  One of its basic functions is to clarify and extend the text.  Concept Books explore the characteristics of a class of objects or an abstract idea such as numbers, size and color.  Identification books are basically naming books.  They range from simple pictures for the youngest child to detailed classifications for the older reader.

Unusual art media can be based on the method used to construct the piece or the medium itself.  Computer generated art, cut paper, photography, fabric, and pulp art are some of the uncommon media and techniques you will find in this exhibit.
