Intercultural Student Services
The 2010-2011 ASPIRE MENTORING PROGRAM
The Office of Intercultural Student Services has established a new initiative to provide additional student support to at risk students. This initiative is the ASPIRE Mentoring Program which commenced in the Fall of 2004.
The goal of this program is to provide academic and social mentoring to assist and encourage students in their goals to graduate from college. ASPIRE is the acronym for Assisting Student's Progress In Reaching Educational Goals. This program also provides support to those incoming freshmen and second year students who have indicated an interest in participating in the program and could benefit from the services. The ASPIRE program will select current qualified junior or senior students to serve as mentors to a freshman or sophomore. They will be required to meet on a weekly basis to address any social or academic challenges that the mentor assist with and provide guidance and direction accordingly. This program will be instrumental in helping those inexperienced students "navigate" the college experience. This comprehensive support will result in students reaching educational goals, having a positive college experience and finding gainful employment upon completion of their baccalaureate degree.
