Pharmacy-based Immunization Training A combination of web-based education, interactive case-based discussion and practicum
General Information This training program provides pharmacists with the necessary skills to become a primary source for vaccine administration, while also providing basic knowledge of immunology, practice implementation and legal/regulatory issues. This module is presented as 12 hours of home study, consisting of selected primary literature designed to present the most recent and relevant information available on immunizations. Each participant is required to pass (a score of 80% or higher) a home study post-test over this material prior to attending the live session. The second part of this course is an eight-hour live session, which consists of three hours of lecture, followed by two hours of patient assessment/practicum, wherein pharmacists participate in practicing physical assessment activities and learn how to properly administer immunizations. Two hours are devoted to patient-centered, case-based discussions designed to require participants to apply material presented in the home study and lecture portion of the module. The last one hour of this program is focused on practice development and billing.NOTE: Prior to attending the live session, participants must be CPR certified by completing the American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (0.4 CEUs). If you are not certified, an American Heart Association, Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professionals Provider Course will be offered.The home study portion of this program is comprised of several PowerPoint presentations, which include audio lectures provided by the speakers synchronized to their PowerPoint presentations, and a home study post-test.
