Alyson received her Bachelor of Science degree at Findlay and really enjoyed her first four years in that program. Then, she decided she wanted to become a pharmacist, and knew she wanted to apply at to Findlay’s program. The professor-to-student ratio adds to the individualized attention students receive, and the hands-on learning atmosphere was important to her. Although the University of Findlay is small in size, it offers many opportunities for students to achieve a top education and to do great things after graduation. In the College of Pharmacy program, students and faculty become acquainted quickly because you are part of a program where everyone is working toward the same goal. She also likes the smaller class sizes Findlay offers because it allows for more individualized attention between professors and students. Professors become familiar with what you are capable of achieving and then challenge you to meet their expectations. They know what we are capable of as students and expect only the best from us. Also, while the city of Findlay is small, the University does a great job with on-campus student activities, events and organizations to keep students involved

Her favorite class has been Pharmaceutics Lab because it introduces students to sterile and non-sterile compounding while incorporating research on mock patient cases related to the medication being compounded and patient counseling. She enjoyed this class because it challenged her to think outside the box to solve patient problems and it exposed her to compounding medications. The faculty and staff are very accommodating to students. They get to know us individually and want to see students and the pharmacy program succeed. The pharmacy program is difficult and the challenges from the professors are certainly preparing us to be the best.

Alyson is currently working as an intern part-time for an independent pharmacy and plans to explore other areas of pharmacy such as hospital or

ambulatory care.  She is also secretary for the Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists (SSHP), and active in The Academy of Student Pharmacist. She still has a few years until graduation and is currently undecided on what specific area of pharmacy she would like to pursue after graduation, but is certain that she is going to love being a pharmacist and plans to be a productive asset to the pharmacy community. Other hobbies outside of pharmacy include: camping with friends and family, hiking in the mountains of South Carolina, and just being outdoors.

To be a productive UF student Alyson says “study and work hard because while the curriculum is not easy, the resources are there to help you succeed”.  She also encourages students to “become involved in pharmacy organizations because it exposes you to many areas of pharmacy, as well as being a great way to network within the pharmacy community.” She gives her parents and family credit for being her biggest supporters as well as her inspiration for always working hard to achieve her dreams.
