Department of Pharmacy Practice

Professional Development

Our faculty members are continuously involved in high quality professional development. This development is very broad, and includes, but is not limited to, keeping up with current trends in medicine, involvement in legislative issues, certifications for practice in specialty pharmacy areas, and continuing education in the art of teaching. We strive to be not only competent current practitioners, but also the best educators possible!

Training Programs and Workshops: Our department members are continuously involved in activities that enhance their skills in leadership, teaching pedagogy, and the practice of pharmacy. During the past year, our faculty members have participated in the following training programs and workshops:
  • “Teaching a Superior Online Course”, which provides our faculty with skills to use state-of-the-art technology to teach students “live” or “online”.
  • On-campus workshops to use today’s most cutting-edge software programs to aid in teaching, including Blackboard, Elluminate, Movie Maker, and a variety of presentation and audience polling technologies.
  • Pharmacist Immunization Delivery Training Course. All department members are certified in immunization delivery, allowing not for not only personal provision of such services, but oversight and assistance to students doing the same.
  • Teaching Partners Training Program. A teaching mentorship program designed to provide new educators formal mentorship from the seasoned educators. Regular readings, discussions and experimentation in pedagogy that stem from these activities enable participants to become ever-stronger teachers.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – all department members are certified as ACLS providers and are tasked with the continued education in order to keep this certification current. In addition, all department members will be certified as ACLS instructors by January 2012.
  • Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) – Our department members are actively seeking this rigorous certification program, with 25% of the department having achieved this prestigious recognition.
  • AACP Research and Scholarship Training Program
  • AACP Leadership and Management Training Program
