Content and Competence

In the College of Business at The University of Findlay, we believe that students must develop their managerial competencies as well as master content knowledge.  To assist our students in doing so, the faculty have targeted soft skills like communication skills and integrity/accountability as well as critical thinking as areas to emphasize.  Competencies, or skills, require practice to develop.

Therefore, we emphasize experiential learning, or learning by doing as well as learning by studying.  As a result, we endeavor to provide our students with a variety of opportunities to practice what they are learning through internships, projects, and other practical opportunities.  For example, to encourage our students to develop their written communication skills, we encourage them to publish an article or paper, perhaps in collaboration with a faculty member.

Every student in the College of Business can earn scholarships of up to $1000 per year for publishing.  This is a very effective way for our students to practice their written communication skills.  Similarly, we offer conference participation grants of up to $400 to students to participate or present a paper at a professional conference.  By these, and other, ways we seek to challenge our students to accomplish something meaningful during their studies with us.
