Tegan Wood ’10
Religious studies major
Holland, Ohio

Tegan WoodTegan Wood, senior religious studies major, has traveled to Africa for a mission trip, has tutored students in math and science on both the collegiate and elementary levels and has served as the director of multiple youth programs at a community church.

But Wood says one of her greatest accomplishments as a student at The University of Findlay is being selected as the Religious Studies Student of the Year for 2010. Louis Stulman, Ph.D., chair of the department of religious studies and philosophy, says her award is well-deserved.

“She is a brilliant and all-around wonderful student,” said Stulman in his recommendation for Wood. “She has a deep sense of call to service ... and has a promising life before her. She’s one of the most remarkable students I’ve had in many years at UF.”

Wood, who hails from Holland, Ohio, chose the University because of its proximity to home and its “small-school, small-classroom feel.”

“Findlay simply offered me everything that I wanted in a school. And it was far enough away that I could still experience my own life,” said Wood. “The University has prepared me for whatever path I may choose. The professors are especially amazing, and have always guided and mentored me throughout my years here ... This school has helped make me a stronger and better person.”

During her time at the University, Wood has been actively involved in her major. She worked as an assistant for Pastor Will Miller, director of Christian ministry, and she also helped run the soundboard for Thursday Night Live, a weekly contemporary worship service.

Though she is looking toward the future, Wood says she’ll miss many things about her undergraduate experience at UF.

“I will miss conversations with my professors, and with other students,” said Wood. “Most of all I will miss the friends I have made here, and those who have become so special in my life.”

After graduation Wood plans to attend seminary and work toward a master of divinity, probably at Winebrenner Theological Seminary. Aside from those plans, she says she’s not exactly sure what she wants to do.

“I am just looking forward to graduating right now and seeing where life takes me,” said Wood. “Coming to the University taught me how to pursue my goals.”
