Class of 2009, Psychology Major

As a psychology major, Jeremy Stewart enjoys being involved with and helping others. This passion has led him to be involved in many activities and to be a role model on campus.

Jeremy is involved with Residence Life and served as resident assistant for Bare Hall during the 2006-2007 academic year. For the 2007-2008 academic year, he is the resident director of the Haven, home to approximately 80 male and female residents.

He was also involved with the First-Year Experience program as a peer mentor. “Being a peer mentor for freshman was an incredible experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything. One thing that I really looked forward to doing every week was working with my First-Year Experience class,” Jeremy remarked. “I love being able to help the freshmen out around campus. Being a role model for my first-year class and knowing that the students look up to me is something else that I really liked about being a peer mentor.”

“Another activity that I really enjoy doing is singing and playing the piano,” said Jeremy. “I have been singing and playing the piano for most of my life. It is a way for me to forget about what’s happening around me and focus on myself and my needs.”

Jeremy’s enjoyment of music has led to his participation in University Singers, a select vocal ensemble on campus, which performs standard and contemporary popular songs and Broadway literature complete with choreography. He has also worked, since his freshman year, as a student assistant for Micheal F. Anders, Ph.D., professor of music and director of the music program and University Singers.

These experiences, in addition to his academic studies, have helped Jeremy to grow professionally and develop leadership and communication skills. “Working with people around campus has really taught me how to adjust to different personalities. Being a resident assistant and a First-Year Experience peer mentor has been a great way for me to meet lots of people around campus,” said Jeremy. “Because I one day hope to become a psychologist, I think the things I’ve experienced over the past two years have really helped me learn how to conduct myself in a professional manner.”

Caring about and helping others is important to Jeremy, and he wanted those same qualities reflected in the school he chose to attend. According to Jeremy, “I chose The University of Findlay because of the people that make up the school. The teachers, faculty and staff at the University really seem like they care about the success of the students. I think that it is important to have people around that truly care about you, especially when you are in such an important stage of your life.”
