Logan Kreais ’09
Accounting Major, Financial and Managerial Emphases
Hometown: Upper Sandusky, Ohio

Logan KreaisLogan Kreais became familiar with The University of Findlay through Post-Secondary Options courses, which he took both at his high school and on campus. By the time he stepped onto campus his freshman year, Kreais already had completed 16 credit hours toward a bachelor’s degree.

“I was unsure at first what I wanted to do,” said Kreais. “Accounting was the best mix of what I was good at and what I liked – math and business.” And with Doug Asbury, assistant professor and director of accounting, as his academic adviser and mentor, Kreais was able to complete the requirements for a bachelor’s degree in just three years.

In addition to a full load of classes each semester, Kreais also participated in Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) and Accounting Club, and he completed two internships.

As a SIFE team member, Kreais has held several officer positions within the club, and this year, he was instrumental in getting approval for the team to participate in the Ohio Benefit Bank Project. SIFE members were trained to do simple tax returns for low- to moderate-income individuals.

The team members made themselves available at locations such as the Findlay City Mission and Millstream Technology Center, helping people file their taxes and claim tax refund money they otherwise would not have received.

Kreais also helped with SIFE’s many additional events and activities and traveled with the SIFE team to both regional and national competitions in Dallas, Texas, and Chicago.

A three-year member and current president of the Accounting Club, Kreais helped to plan and organize speakers for meetings and encouraged other students to take advantage of the networking opportunities available to them. “Networking is always important. You’ve got to keep your contacts and go to activities,” said Kreais.

To gain additional experience in the accounting field, Kreais secured several internships. During the 2009 and 2008 tax seasons, Kreais worked for Knueven, Schroeder and Co. in Findlay where he prepared payroll taxes and income tax returns for individuals, trusts, partnerships, S-corporations and C-corporations.

During summer 2008, Kreais worked for AGCredit, ACA, in Fostoria, which focuses primarily on farm financing. Kreais was familiar with the organization because he comes from a family farming background. While an intern at AGCredit, Kreais worked with a variety of departments – from human resources to the office of the chief financial officer. He created spreadsheets that later were used company-wide, developed procedures and did auditing work.

Kreais also volunteers his time to help others and especially enjoys helping children. Through the Ohio Society of CPAs, Kreais volunteered for Accounting for Kids Day, during which he played a stock market game to teach kids about investing.

After graduation in May, Kreais plans to attend graduate school where he will work toward earning a master of accountancy degree and prepare for the Certified Public Accountant exam. Kreais plans to begin his career in public accounting and later move to private accounting.
