Scholarship
Opportunities for scholarship and growth as a professional in your field are woven through the curriculum. Examples abound: A program that allows fifth-year pharmacy students to practice their skills in patient education; an undergraduate education student who is completing her student teaching in South Korea; business students who are receiving SAP training and earning Six Sigma certification as they complete their courses. Undergraduate Research
At many larger schools, only star graduate assistants are privileged enough to perform research projects with faculty members. At UF, faculty encourage undergraduates to conduct research and mentor them through the process. To read about recent examples, click here.
Community Service
Both service projects and academic service learning are growing in importance at UF, where new students spend a half day serving community organizations before they even set foot in the classroom. The University has been recognized on the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll and was first in the nation among institutions served by Sodexo dining services for collecting nearly 18,000 pounds of food during a 24-hour period. Coordinated by the Campus Compact Center for Service and Learning, faculty, staff and students donated more than 17,000 hours of service during the 2010-11 academic year.
